Santa Relies on UC
Earlier this week Dave Michels posted his letter to Santa – noting that jolly old St. Nick is obviously reliant upon UC.
We know that you are a heavy user of UC and regularly collaborate on your good/bad list via telepresence, IM, and voice. We know that you value mobility in your work, and you utilize hands-free communications while driving that sleigh. BYOD has reinvigorated your mobile gifting program, so how about a little quid pro quo and give the industry some love and magic.
So when Santa visited us here at ShoreTel this week, we asked him about it.
Although world famous, Santa runs a tight business. He doesn’t have the staffing luxuries to employ a huge IT taskforce. His elves are busy collaborating on new toys for all the good little boys and girls.
Such an undertaking requires a brilliantly simple UC solution. Complexity can be left to the intricacies in coordinating with NORAD’s tracking of his sleigh as he travels the globe at 3,604 miles per hour.
Turns out, Michels was spot on in terms of using telepresence while collaborating on the naughty or nice lists.
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
Presence is also tremendously helpful for gift delivery. With only 34 microseconds per stop, Santa needs to instantly see which little ones are nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar-plums dance in their heads – and which kids are still awake listening for hoofprints and jingle bells atop the roof.
Working in temperatures averaging -29 degrees F, Santa’s joy factory needs absolute reliability and availability. With roughly two billion kids awaiting his arrival, downtime is not an option. The workshop depends on a VoIP phone system that also integrates children’s faxes and email to Santa, enterprise applications (tracking all those in-person visit requests), calendaring, and workflow into one seamless environment.
Of course, mobility comes into play as he comes to say, on a foggy Christmas Eve,
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
With all those varying time zones, dropped calls on his enterprise mobile could definitely be a problem.
But no matter which aspect of UC he’s using, we can all be certain to receive his message as he drives out of sight.
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!
